Hope everyone is well.

We wanted to write to you following the Prime Minister's announcement on Sunday of a phased plan to beat the virus and provide a road map for re-opening society. The Minister confirmed that all early years children will be able to return to nurseries from 1 June 2020 at the same time that school returns begin to be phased-in. The Children and Families Minister Vicky Ford MP has given more clarity on the Government’s plans to reopen educational settings following this lockdown period. This will be subject to review of the scientific evidence on 28 May and further guidance from the Department for Education will be published.

The Government set out plans for the future which include:

Step one – from Weds 13 May:

Face Coverings – “people should aim to wear a face-covering in enclosed spaces where social distancing is not always possible and they come into contact with others that they do not normally meet, for example on public transport or in some shops”

“Face coverings should not be used by children under the age of 2 or those who may find it difficult to manage them correctly, for example primary school age children unassisted, or those with respiratory conditions”

Step 2 – From 1 June at the earliest:

“A phased return for early years settings and schools. Schools should prepare to begin to open for more children from 1 June. The Government expects children to be able to return to early years settings, and for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 to be back in school from this point.”

“The Department of Education will engage closely with schools and early years providers to develop further detail and guidance on how schools (which includes EY settings) should facilitate this.”

“One proposed idea being considered by the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) is if it is safe to change the rules to allow one household to expand and include one other household in the same group.”

Step 3 – no earlier than 4 July:

Some of the remaining businesses (personal care like hair dressers / hospitality / places of worship / leisure facilities) could reopen subject to ability to comply with Covid-19 Safety Guidance.
